Bone marrow metastasis of angiosarcoma.

Summary

This study details a rare case of angiosarcoma spreading to the bone marrow in a patient with primary splenic angiosarcoma. Splenic angiosarcomas show a unique tendency for bone marrow infiltration.

Background:

Angiosarcomas are rare, aggressive vascular tumors.
Metastasis is common, but bone marrow involvement is infrequently documented.

Observation:

A 36-year-old man with high-grade splenic angiosarcoma developed leukoerythroblastic anemia 3 years post-splenectomy.
Bone marrow biopsy confirmed extensive angiosarcoma infiltration with characteristic spindle cells and vascular channels.

Findings:

Immunohistochemistry revealed tumor cells positive for endothelial markers CD31, CD34, and von Willebrand factor.
This is one of only three reported cases of angiosarcoma bone marrow metastasis, all originating from the spleen.
