Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of brachytherapy in reducing coronary artery spasm in patients with refractory and highly symptomatic variant angina.
  • To assess the impact of brachytherapy on angina frequency and coronary artery diameter.

Main Methods:

  • Eighteen patients with frequent angina despite maximal anti-anginal therapy underwent intracoronary acetylcholine infusion to induce coronary spasm.
  • Intracoronary brachytherapy (20 Gy) using a beta-emitting (32P) source was delivered to vasospastic segments.

    • Further research is warranted to establish long-term outcomes and optimal protocols.
