Abstract:
During the years 1975, 1976 and 1977 2481 tubal sterilizations were performed, either simultaneously with gynaecological operations or Caesarian sections, as an independent operation post partum or by laparoscopy. Unipolar, bipolar or thermocoagulation was used for tubal occlusion. Primary surgical complications occurred in 0.36% of the patients. Until March 31st, 1978 6 women (0.24%) became pregnant after tubal coagulation; so far 2 women have asked for reversal of the operation. From the surgical point of view, on the basis of the basis of these figures, it is a low-risk, dependable (Pearl index 0.13), irreversible method of contraception.
