Summary

Melanonychia striata, a nail pigmentation condition, was observed in six toenails of a Filipino child. This extensive presentation in a young Filipino patient is a previously undocumented occurrence.

Background:

Melanonychia striata is a common finding, typically benign, characterized by longitudinal bands of increased pigmentation in the nail plate.
While prevalent in certain ethnicities, extensive involvement of multiple toenails is less commonly reported, especially in pediatric populations.

Observation:

A case study of a 10-year-old Filipino boy presenting with melanonychia striata affecting six toenails.
The clinical presentation involved distinct longitudinal pigmented bands across multiple toenails.

Findings:

The extensive manifestation of melanonychia striata across six toenails in a pediatric patient is a novel observation.
This case highlights a potentially underreported severity or variant of melanonychia striata in Filipino children.

Implications:

This case broadens the understanding of the clinical spectrum of melanonychia striata in pediatric dermatology.
Further research may be warranted to explore potential genetic or environmental factors contributing to such extensive presentations in specific ethnic groups.
