Oral melanotic macule--a case report.

Background:

Melanotic macules are common benign oral lesions.
They are characterized by localized hyperpigmentation due to increased melanin.

Observation:

A case of a 12-year-old girl presented with a black pigmented area.
The lesion was located on the right buccal mucosa.
The clinical presentation prompted further investigation.

Findings:

Excision biopsy was performed for diagnostic confirmation.
Histopathological examination confirmed the lesion as a melanotic macule.
The biopsy revealed increased melanin pigmentation in the basal layer of the epithelium.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of accurate diagnosis of oral pigmented lesions.
Early detection and biopsy are crucial for benign conditions like melanotic macules.
Understanding the histopathological features aids in differentiating from potentially malignant lesions.
