This study presents a novel surgical technique for epulis removal, preserving gum tissue using a connective tissue graft. The procedure resulted in complete lesion disappearance and long-term gum health without recurrence.

Area of Science:

  • Periodontology
  • Oral Surgery

Background:

  • Epulis removal often involves significant tissue disruption.
  • Preserving the mucogingival complex is crucial for periodontal health.

Observation:

  • A surgical approach using a pedicle flap and subepithelial connective tissue graft was employed.
  • The graft was placed between the bone and the epulis, preserving the lesion initially.

Findings:

  • All six patients experienced complete epulis resolution within months.
  • Excellent gingival health was maintained in all patients at the 60-month follow-up.
  • No instances of lesion recurrence were observed.

Implications:

  • This technique offers a viable alternative for epulis treatment.

Related Experiment Videos

  • It demonstrates successful preservation and enhancement of the mucogingival complex.
  • The findings suggest improved long-term periodontal outcomes.
