Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Vascular Biology

Background:

  • Investigating choroidal vasculature in aging populations.
  • Identifying potential congenital abnormalities affecting choroidal vessels.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To demonstrate abnormal choroidal vessels in aged patients using indocyanine-green angiography (ICGA).

Main Methods:

  • Indocyanine-green angiography (ICGA) performed on 350 aged patients.
  • Utilized TOPCON TRC-50IA fundus camera for image acquisition.
  • Retrospective review of recorded ICGA images.

Main Results:

  • Abnormal choroidal vessels identified in 5 out of 350 patients (1.43% incidence).
  • Characterized anomalies include round shape, focal enlargement, irregular shape/entrance, satellite appearance, and vascular loops.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Findings suggest a possible link to congenital choroidal abnormalities.
  • Conclusions:

    • Indocyanine-green angiography (ICGA) is an effective method for visualizing abnormal choroidal vessels.
    • ICGA aids in the detection and characterization of choroidal vascular anomalies in aged individuals.
