Area of Science:

  • Reproductive medicine
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Gynecologic procedures

Background:

  • Hysterosalpingocontrastsonography (HyCoSy) is an emerging diagnostic tool in gynecology.
  • Evaluating HyCoSy's initial performance is crucial for its clinical integration.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review the indications, referral sources, and findings of HyCoSy in the first 100 patients.
  • To assess the feasibility and success rate of HyCoSy as an outpatient procedure.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of the first 100 HyCoSy procedures performed.
  • Analysis of patient indications, referral pathways, and procedural outcomes.
  • Assessment of tubal patency using Echovist and saline hysterosonography.

Main Results:

Related Experiment Videos

  • HyCoSy was indicated for infertility (72%) and recurrent miscarriage (22%).
  • The procedure was completed in 97% of cases, with successful tubal patency assessment in 95%.
  • Bilateral tubal patency was observed in 73% of cases, with 10% showing bilateral occlusion.

Conclusions:

  • HyCoSy is an easily implemented, successful outpatient technique for gynecological imaging.
  • The procedure is well-tolerated and provides clinically relevant information for infertility and miscarriage investigations.
  • HyCoSy offers a valuable diagnostic option for women experiencing reproductive health challenges.
