Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the time-dependent changes in tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) following acute maximal exercise.
  • To determine the optimal time window for blood sample collection to accurately reflect exercise-induced hemostatic responses.

Main Methods:

  • Eight healthy males underwent a graded maximal exercise test on a treadmill.
  • Venous blood samples were collected pre-exercise and at 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 minutes post-exercise.

    • This timing is crucial for accurately capturing the transient increase in t-PA activity and antigen levels.
    • PAI-1 levels appear less sensitive to immediate post-exercise timing within this window.
