Summary

Spigelian hernia, a rare abdominal wall defect, presents diagnostic challenges. This case report details the surgical treatment of a Spigelian hernia located unusually above the navel in a 50-year-old female patient.

Background:

Spigelian hernia is a rare abdominal wall defect.
It is often diagnostically challenging due to its atypical presentations.

Observation:

A 50-year-old female presented with left epigastric pain and a palpable, tumor-like mass.
The mass was identified as an unusually located Spigelian hernia, situated above the umbilicus.

Findings:

Surgical intervention was performed under general anesthesia for the Spigelian hernia.
The postoperative recovery was uneventful.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of considering rare abdominal wall hernias in differential diagnosis.
Surgical repair remains the definitive treatment for symptomatic Spigelian hernias.
Early diagnosis and surgical management can lead to favorable outcomes.
