Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the prevalence and significance of tongue lesions in patients with psoriasis.
  • To compare oral findings in psoriatic patients versus a control group.

Main Methods:

  • A case-control study involving 200 psoriatic patients and 200 matched controls.
  • Oral mucosa examination was conducted at Razi Hospital, Tehran, Iran.

Main Results:

  • Fissured tongue (FT) and benign migratory glossitis (BMG) were more prevalent in psoriatic patients (33% and 14%, respectively) compared to controls (9.5% and 6%).

  • Odds ratios indicated a significantly higher likelihood of FT (OR: 4.69) and BMG (OR: 2.55) in psoriatic individuals.

    • Conclusions:

    • Nonspecific tongue lesions are common in psoriasis patients.
    • The clinical significance of these oral findings in psoriasis requires further research.
    • These lesions may serve as indicators in suspected psoriatic cases.
