Summary

Laparoscopic pyelolithotomy offers a minimally invasive solution for complex kidney stones in pelvic ectopic kidneys. This technique avoids open surgery and is feasible for challenging cases.

Background:

  • Pelvic renal ectopia with calculi presents a rare and complex surgical challenge.
  • Minimally invasive approaches are increasingly preferred for treating complex stones.

Observation:

  • A case of symptomatic stones in a left pelvic kidney was treated with laparoscopic pyelolithotomy.
  • The procedure utilized three port sites under general anesthesia.

Findings:

  • Two stones were successfully removed using flexible nephroscopy via a port site.
  • Pyelotomy closure was achieved with intracorporeal suture, demonstrating successful stone extraction.

Implications:

  • Laparoscopic pyelolithotomy is a viable, minimally invasive alternative to open surgery for pelvic kidney stones.
