Summary

Mastoid effusions are often secondary to lateral sinus thrombosis, not the cause. This study examines the progression of mastoid effusions linked to sinus thrombosis.

Background:

Mastoid air cell effusions can be associated with lateral sinus thrombosis.
The causal relationship between these two conditions is not always clear.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the relationship between mastoid air cell effusions and lateral sinus thrombosis.
To determine if mastoid effusions are secondary to sinus thrombosis.

Main Methods:

Case series of three patients.
Review of imaging findings and clinical data.
Analysis of the chronology and evolution of mastoid effusions.

Main Results:

In all three cases, imaging findings supported mastoid effusion being secondary to lateral sinus thrombosis.
