Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Ophthalmology

Background:

  • Idiopathic facial palsy, commonly known as Bell's palsy, affects facial nerve function.
  • Recurrent cases are infrequent and often linked to genetic factors or comorbidities like hypertension and diabetes.

Observation:

  • A 34-year-old female presented with six distinct episodes of right-sided idiopathic facial palsy.
  • Each episode resolved completely, with no residual neurological deficits.

Findings:

  • The patient's condition represents an unusually high frequency of idiopathic recurrent facial palsy.
  • Literature review indicates no previously documented cases with six such episodes.

Implications:

  • This case expands the understanding of idiopathic recurrent facial palsy's potential clinical spectrum.
  • Further research may explore potential underlying mechanisms or predispositions for frequent idiopathic recurrences.
