Summary

Leptin, a hormone regulating satiety and immunity, enhances T-lymphocyte proliferation in birds. This study shows leptin boosts immune cell response in avian species, similar to mammals.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of leptin on mitogen-stimulated T-lymphocyte proliferation in birds.
  • To determine if leptin enhances T-cell responses in avian models.

Main Methods:

  • In vitro: Turkey lymphocytes were treated with varying concentrations of recombinant chicken leptin and stimulated with Concavalin A, with proliferation measured by BrdU incorporation.
  • In vivo: Asian blue quail received leptin via osmotic pumps and phytohemagglutinin injections to assess T-cell response.
