Gadoteric acid, a gadolinium-based contrast agent, was safely used for diagnostic hysterosalpingography in a patient with a history of severe adverse reactions to iodinated contrast media.

Area of Science:

  • Radiology
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Contrast Media

Background:

  • Iodinated contrast media are commonly used for hysterosalpingography.
  • Severe adverse reactions to iodinated contrast media can limit diagnostic options.

Observation:

  • A patient with a history of severe generalized adverse reaction to iodinated contrast media underwent diagnostic hysterosalpingography.

Findings:

  • The procedure was successfully performed using gadoteric acid (1,350 mOsm).
  • Gadoteric acid served as a viable alternative contrast agent in this high-risk patient.

Implications:

  • This case suggests gadoteric acid may be a safe alternative for hysterosalpingography in patients with contraindications to iodinated contrast media.
