Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is one of the most aggressive and lethal human malignancies.
  • ATC accounts for approximately 1% of all thyroid carcinomas.
  • The prognosis for ATC remains uniformly fatal.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the clinical outcomes and survival rates of patients diagnosed with anaplastic thyroid cancer.
  • To confirm the aggressive nature and poor prognosis of ATC.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective study was conducted.
  • Data from 15 cases of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma diagnosed between 1989 and 2000 were analyzed.

Main Results:

  • Fifteen cases of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma were identified.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Three patients received curative treatment, while the remaining received palliative care.
  • No patients survived beyond one year.
  • The median survival time was 3.5 months.
  • Conclusions:

    • This study reaffirms the extreme aggressiveness of anaplastic thyroid cancer.
    • The prognosis for ATC remains poor, with a fatal outcome being the norm.
