Abstract:
Hair can be a valuable source of DNA for the noninvasive study of human and nonhuman populations. However,hairs contain extremely small quantities of DNA, making the method used to extract the DNA of paramount importance. In this study, four different methods for extracting DNA from hairs were compared and the most efficient one was determined. The method for extracting mtDNA from hair shifts was also discussed in the study.
