Summary

A white tiger with renal failure had persistent metanephric ducts, a rare finding. This condition, marked by kidney fibrosis and necrosis, is documented here for the first time in felids.

Observation:

  • A severe case of renal failure in an 18-year-old male white tiger (Panthera tigris) was investigated postmortem.
  • Kidney examination revealed hydronephrosis, renal calculi, fibrosis, and necrosis.

Findings:

  • Multiple large persistent metanephric ducts were identified at the corticomedullary junctions.
  • Associated pathology included interstitial fibrosis, tubular atrophy, and lymphoplasmacytic interstitial nephritis.
