Abstract:
A novel strategy for controlling developmental signaling pathways, which uses specific ER retention mechanisms, has emerged from several recent studies. A paper by Yamamoto et al. (2005) identifies a new protein termed Shisa that inhibits both Wnt- and FGF-signaling pathways during Xenopus gastrulation by mediating ER retention of the Wnt receptor Frizzled and the FGF receptor.
