Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the incidence of heterotopic ossification (HO) following primary shoulder joint replacement.

  • To evaluate the efficacy of Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) in preventing HO after shoulder replacement.

    • Current evidence does not support routine NSAID prophylaxis for HO prevention in all shoulder replacement patients.
    • Targeted NSAID prophylaxis may be considered for patients with cuff tear arthropathy undergoing shoulder replacement.
