Area of Science:

  • Infectious Diseases
  • Cardiology
  • Valvular Heart Disease

Background:

  • Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease with potential systemic complications.
  • Brucella endocarditis is a rare but severe manifestation of brucellosis.
  • Underdiagnosis contributes to poor patient outcomes.

Observation:

  • A case of recurrent mitral valve failure is presented.
  • The patient underwent three mitral valve replacements.
  • Brucella endocarditis was ultimately diagnosed as the underlying cause.

Findings:

  • Brucella endocarditis can lead to prosthetic valve dysfunction and failure.
  • Delayed diagnosis of Brucella endocarditis can necessitate multiple surgical interventions.
  • Aggressive medical and surgical management is crucial for Brucella endocarditis.

Related Experiment Videos

Implications:

  • Clinicians should consider Brucella infection in cases of unexplained prosthetic valve failure.
  • Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of Brucella endocarditis can prevent recurrent valve failure.
  • This case highlights the importance of considering rare infections in complex cardiac cases.
