Summary

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) disk morphology findings do not correlate with axiography time curves in evaluating temporomandibular joint disorders. Clinical evaluation and MRI remain crucial for diagnosing anterior disk displacement.

  • To investigate the correlation between morphological disc findings on MRI (open and closed mouth) and time curves obtained from axiography.
  • To determine if axiographic data can predict TMJ disc morphology.

  • Retrospective analysis of 45 temporomandibular joints from 33 patients.
  • MRI scans were performed with the mouth open and closed.
  • Joint movements were assessed using electronic axiography.
