Summary

Dedifferentiated liposarcoma, a common adult soft tissue sarcoma, can grow extremely large. This case highlights a rare 18 kg tumor, its surgical removal, and the patient's subsequent relapse and mortality.

Background:

Liposarcomas represent a common category of soft tissue sarcomas in adult populations.
These tumors are notably characterized by their potential for significant enlargement.

Observation:

A case involving an exceptionally large dedifferentiated liposarcoma, weighing 18 kg, is presented.
The tumor, despite being encapsulated and amenable to en bloc resection, was associated with a poor patient outcome.

Findings:

The patient experienced a relapse of the dedifferentiated liposarcoma nine months post-surgery.
Tragically, the patient succumbed to the disease one year after the operative intervention.

Implications:

This case underscores the aggressive nature of large dedifferentiated liposarcomas, even when surgically resectable.
