Abstract:
Organ transplant recipients are at an increased risk of developing opportunistic infections due to prolonged immunosuppression. We present the case of a renal transplant recipient with severe CD4 lymphopenia who developed disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex infection. Recovery from infection was paralleled by a progressive increase in CD4 lymphocytes. T lymphocyte subsets are not monitored routinely in organ transplants but may identify patients at risk of developing serious infectious complications.
