Strenuous exercise in rats did not alter hypothalamic AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activity, suggesting this pathway does not regulate energy metabolism during or after exercise. Appetite hormones like ghrelin showed changes, but hypothalamic AMPK remained unaffected.
