The tongue frequently shows reactive, infectious, and concurrent lesions in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Histological analysis of 92 autopsied AIDS patients revealed alterations in 75%, with hairy leukoplakia and candidosis being most common.
