Enterococcus faecalis utilizes maltose via a phosphotransferase system (PTS) transporter, MalT, and subsequent hydrolysis by maltose phosphate phosphorylase (MalP). This research reveals a novel metabolic pathway for maltose in lactic acid bacteria.
