Background:

  • Recurrent miscarriage is linked to antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) and prothrombotic states.
  • Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune condition that increases the risk of blood clots.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if women with APS-related recurrent miscarriage have a higher thrombosis risk compared to those with idiopathic recurrent miscarriage.
  • To compare long-term thrombotic event rates between APS-associated and idiopathic recurrent miscarriage cohorts.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective case-control study involving 141 women with recurrent miscarriage and APS, matched with 141 women with idiopathic recurrent miscarriage.
  • Validated questionnaires were used for data collection over a mean follow-up of 7.3 years.

    Conclusions:

    • Both idiopathic recurrent miscarriage and APS-associated recurrent miscarriage carry a similar long-term risk for thrombosis.
    • These findings suggest that APS diagnosis does not significantly alter the long-term thrombotic risk in women with recurrent miscarriage compared to idiopathic cases.
