Three-dimensional (3D) processing of multislice computed tomography coronary angiography (MSCT-CA) offers superior diagnostic accuracy for detecting coronary artery disease compared to conventional projections.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the diagnostic accuracy of two image evaluation protocols for MSCT-CA: conventional projections versus three-dimensional (3D) processing.
  • To determine the optimal protocol for assessing significant coronary artery stenosis using MSCT-CA.

  • Sixty patients with suspected coronary artery disease underwent 16-row MSCT-CA.
  • Image analysis was performed by two independent observers using both a standard projection protocol and a 3D protocol.

    • Conventional projection protocols for MSCT-CA yield insufficient diagnostic accuracy for significant coronary stenosis.
    • Three-dimensional processing significantly enhances the diagnostic performance of MSCT-CA, making it a more reliable tool for evaluating coronary artery disease.
