    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between the severity of periodontal disease and tooth sensitivity using electroodontometry.
    • To quantify changes in tooth sensitivity and pain thresholds in patients with varying stages of periodontitis.

    Main Methods:

    • Electroodontometric examination of 756 intact teeth in 209 patients aged 18-65.
    • Patients were categorized based on the stage of periodontal disease: mild, moderate, and severe.
    • Analysis focused on normal sensitivity, decreased pain threshold, and increased pain threshold.

    • Normal tooth sensitivity was observed in 96.8% of teeth with mild periodontitis, 68.4% with moderate, and 55% with severe periodontitis.

    • Altered pain thresholds (both decreased and increased) are indicative of pulp response to periodontal disease progression.
    • Electroodontometry can serve as a valuable diagnostic tool in evaluating the pulpal status in periodontitis patients.
