Background:

  • Blepharospasm is an involuntary muscle spasm of the eyelids.
  • Neurocysticercosis is a parasitic infection of the central nervous system caused by the larval cysts of the tapeworm Taenia solium.

Observation:

  • A 48-year-old woman presented with a four-year history of bilateral blepharospasm.
  • CT scans revealed multiple intracranial calcifications, indicative of neurocysticercosis, with two calcifications located in the left thalamus.
  • A lacunar infarction was identified in the right internal capsule area.

Findings:

  • The patient's blepharospasm was potentially associated with neurocysticercosis.
  • This represents the first reported case of blepharospasm linked to neurocysticercosis in medical literature.
