The angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) gene insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism is not associated with the development of diabetic nephropathy (DN) in Type 2 diabetic patients. The DD genotype does not appear to be a useful genetic marker for predicting DN in this population.
