Patients with allergic rhinitis show impaired eustachian tube function, especially children. Tympanometry can help detect this dysfunction and prevent middle-ear issues.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate eustachian tube function in allergic rhinitis patients.
  • To compare eustachian tube function between allergic rhinitis patients and healthy controls.

Main Methods:

  • 130 participants (80 allergic rhinitis, 50 controls) underwent tympanometry.
  • Skin hypersensitivity tests were performed on allergic rhinitis patients.

Main Results:

  • Allergic rhinitis patients exhibited negative peak tympanometric pressure.
  • Abnormal tympanogram curves (Type B and C) were more prevalent in allergic rhinitis patients, particularly children.
