Imaging of the colon

Once again, the past year produced many papers on diagnostic imaging of the colon. The most widely publicized development affecting performance of barium enemas was the recall of enema tips equipped with latex balloons because of fatal anaphylactic reactions to latex. Using barium enema examinations to screen for colorectal cancer continued to receive attention. Papers were also published on transrectal ultrasound of colorectal tumors and the staging of colon cancer using nuclear medicine.
