Intensive endurance training in elderly men significantly improved autonomic nervous system function. This exercise intervention boosted heart rate variability and baroreflex activity, suggesting enhanced cardiovascular health in older adults.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of intensive cycloergometer interval training on ANS activity in elderly men.
  • To assess changes in maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max), heart rate variability (HRV), and spontaneous cardiac baroreflex activity (SBR) following a 14-week training program.

  • Eleven elderly men (average age 73.5 years) underwent a 14-week intensive cycloergometer interval training program.

    • Further research is warranted to explore the physiological mechanisms and long-term clinical implications.
