Polysol, a new nutrient-enriched solution, offers superior liver preservation during machine perfusion compared to standard University of Wisconsin-G. This innovative approach reduces hepatocellular damage and improves bile production for better organ quality.

Background:

  • Machine perfusion (MP) is an experimental technique for liver preservation.
  • The modified University of Wisconsin solution (UW-G) is the current standard for MP.
  • There is a need for improved preservation solutions to enhance liver metabolism and reduce damage.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the efficacy of a novel preservation solution, Polysol, against UW-G for hypothermic MP of rat livers.
  • To evaluate the impact of Polysol on hepatocellular damage and bile production during reperfusion.

Main Methods:

  • Rat livers (n=5 per group) underwent 24-hour hypothermic MP using either UW-G or Polysol.
  • Control livers (n=5) underwent 24-hour cold storage in UW solution.
