Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To measure emotional awareness and alexithymia in individuals with EDs.
  • To assess the relationship between these deficits and affective disorders.
  • To enhance the reliability of emotion-processing measures by controlling for confounding factors.

Main Methods:

  • Seventy females with EDs and 70 female controls were compared.
  • Participants completed the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS), and Level of Emotional Awareness Scale (LEAS).
