[Current views on etiopathogenesis of aging]

Global aging of populations is demographic, sociologic and medical important phenomenon. In the paper a general demographic characteristic of aging in urbanized societies and a prognosis of changes were presented, Polish population including. Rate of aging is individual, but modified by environment factors. The historical review of the most important theories of aging and critical current estimation were discussed. The role of oxidative damage was specially emphasized in aging.
