Sudden hearing loss after general anesthesia for non-ear surgery is rare. A patient developed persistent sensorineural hearing loss in one ear after routine eye surgery, highlighting a potential complication of general anesthesia.

  • A 42-year-old female patient with diabetic retinopathy underwent ophthalmologic surgery.
  • The patient received general anesthesia, excluding cardiopulmonary bypass.
  • Postoperatively, the patient experienced sudden hearing loss in the left ear.

Findings:

  • The diagnosed condition was sensorineural hearing loss.
  • The hearing loss persisted for two years without improvement.
  • This case highlights a rare adverse event following general anesthesia.
