Summary

Transilluminated powered phlebectomy (TIPP) is a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins (VV). This technique offers good cosmetic results and pain reduction, with no reported adverse events in this updated experience.

Background:

  • Varicose veins (VV) are a common condition requiring effective treatment.
  • Transilluminated powered phlebectomy (TIPP) was developed for minimally invasive VV treatment.
  • Updated clinical experience with the TIPP technique is reported.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the updated experience with the Transilluminated powered phlebectomy (TIPP) technique for varicose veins (VV).
  • To assess the safety, efficacy, and patient outcomes of TIPP.

Main Methods:

  • 84 patients with symptomatic primary varicose veins (VV) were treated between 2001 and 2004.
  • Procedures included saphenofemoral junction treatment, great saphenous vein stripping, and ligation of incompetent perforating veins.

    • The mean patient age was 50.6 years, with 73% being women.
    • Common indications included heaviness (62%), pain (57%), and unsightly veins (30%).

    Conclusions:

    • The Transilluminated powered phlebectomy (TIPP) technique is a safe procedure for varicose veins (VV).

    • No adverse events were reported in this series.
