Summary

African-American men have significantly lower neuroendocrine (NE) cell counts in normal prostates compared to other ethnic groups. This difference in NE cell expression may contribute to higher prostate cancer rates in this population.

    • The reduced NE cell expression in African Americans may be a contributing factor to the elevated rates of prostate cancer observed in this demographic.
    • Further research is warranted to elucidate the role of NE cells in ethnic disparities in prostate cancer.
