Summary

Dendritic cells in common variable immune deficiency (CVID) patients show reduced IL-12 secretion and impaired antigen presentation. This dendritic cell dysfunction may explain the immune defects characteristic of CVID.

Background:

  • Common variable immune deficiency (CVID) is characterized by reduced immunoglobulin levels and impaired antibody production.
  • Cellular abnormalities, including T cell defects and altered cytokine profiles, are also observed in CVID.
  • Previous hypotheses suggested excess monocyte IL-12 may contribute to CVID pathology.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the function of dendritic cells (DCs) in CVID patients.
  • To determine if DCs from CVID subjects exhibit defects in IL-12 production and antigen presentation.

  • Dendritic cells (DCs) were isolated from CVID patients and healthy controls.
  • DCs were stimulated with physiological simulators like LPS, TNF-alpha, and CD40-L fusion protein.
