Summary

Mandibular osteomyelitis, typically from oral bacteria, can rarely be caused by enteric bacteria. This report details two unique cases, highlighting unusual origins of this jawbone infection.

  • This report presents two atypical cases of mandibular osteomyelitis.
  • The causative agents identified were enteric bacteria, which are unusual pathogens for this condition.

Findings:

  • One patient presented with clinical signs suggestive of a chronic factitious disease, complicating the diagnosis.
  • The second patient had no readily apparent cause for their mandibular osteomyelitis.

Implications:

  • These cases expand the known etiologies of mandibular osteomyelitis.
