Summary

Virtual CT urethroscopy successfully identified a urethral diverticulum in a patient with urinary frequency. This advanced imaging technique offers a less invasive and more informative alternative to traditional urethral examinations.

Background:

Urinary frequency can be a challenging symptom to diagnose.
Conventional diagnostic methods like voiding cystourethrography and cystourethroscopy may not always identify the cause, such as a urethral diverticulum.

Observation:

A 26-year-old woman presented with urinary frequency, but initial investigations were inconclusive.
A novel virtual CT urethroscopy technique using a 16-MDCT scanner was employed.

Findings:

The virtual CT urethroscopy clearly visualized the orifice of a urethral diverticulum.
Intraoperative findings confirmed the diverticulum's presence and location, matching the virtual imaging results.

Implications:

Virtual CT urethroscopy offers superior diagnostic information compared to conventional urethral examinations.
