Abstract:
The Nijmegen 'continuous morbidity registration', a prospective cohort study in general practice, was founded by F. J. A. Huygen in the nineteen-seventies. Many theses and papers have been written on the basis of these data. The latest fruit from this tree is a contribution on recurrent urinary tract infections in women, published in this journal. In that article, a mixture of quantitative and qualitative data is presented. It is true of quantitative data that their presentation determines their interpretation. Qualitative data provide the doctor with insight into the patients' attributions.
