Summary

Self-reported dry eye disease is common, particularly among contact lens wearers. This study found significantly higher dry eye prevalence in contact lens and spectacle wearers compared to those with normal vision.

Background:

  • Dry eye disease (DED) is a prevalent ocular condition affecting millions worldwide.
  • Understanding the prevalence of DED across different refractive correction groups is crucial for targeted interventions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the self-reported prevalence and characteristics of dry eye disease among contact lens wearers, spectacle wearers, and clinical emmetropes.

Main Methods:

  • A survey assessed dry eye symptoms (dryness, light sensitivity), their frequency and intensity, and self-perception of DED.
  • Symptom scales were calculated to classify DED status.
  • Logistic regression and analysis of covariance analyzed the relationship between refractive correction and DED.
