Summary

This study found that posttraumatic obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) can emerge after trauma in military veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The findings highlight the complex relationship between trauma, PTSD, and the development of OCD symptoms.

Background:

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are distinct psychiatric conditions.
The co-occurrence of OCD and PTSD is recognized, but the specific emergence of OCD following trauma requires further investigation.

Observation:

This report details emerging posttraumatic obsessive-compulsive disorder in 13 Israeli military veterans.
All participants were diagnosed with both OCD and PTSD.
The onset of OCD symptoms was directly linked to traumatic experiences.

Findings:

Four detailed case reports illustrate the interplay between OCD and PTSD symptomatology.
The data suggest a causal or exacerbating link between trauma, PTSD, and the development of OCD.
