Summary

This study examined immunoglobulin G (IgG) subclass levels in patients with minor recurrent aphthous stomatitis (MiRAS). Results indicate that altered IgG subclass levels are not a primary cause of MiRAS.

Background:

  • Recurrent aphthous stomatitis is a common oral condition.
  • The role of immunoglobulin G (IgG) subclasses in MiRAS is not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate serum levels of immunoglobulin G (IgG) subclasses in adult patients with minor recurrent aphthous stomatitis (MiRAS).

Main Methods:

  • Serum samples were collected from 71 adult patients diagnosed with MiRAS.
  • Levels of IgG subclasses were quantified using standard laboratory assays.

Main Results:

  • Seven patients (10%) exhibited altered IgG subclass levels.
  • Specifically, six patients had marginally elevated IgG1, and one patient showed a reduced IgG3 level.

Conclusions:

  • The findings suggest that abnormalities in serum IgG subclass levels do not appear to be a significant underlying factor in the pathogenesis of MiRAS.
