Background:

  • Compression's frequency range is widest at lower CFs.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate basilar membrane (BM) response compression in hearing-impaired (HI) listeners with SHL.
  • To compare BM compression in HI listeners to normal-hearing (NH) listeners.
  • To explore the relationship between hair cell damage and BM compression in HI ears.

Main Methods:

  • Temporal masking curves (TMCs) were measured for probe frequencies (500-8000 Hz) and masker frequencies (0.5-1.2x probe).
